History and Development

Otway in 1989

Otway was captured from the air in its development stage in 1989. Click on the picture on the right for a larger and more detailed scale of the trails as they were being prepared for the 1991 Junior Nationals. Notice how the parking area has been expanded; the stadium has been enlarged; the lighting system has been added, the lodge has been expanded, and the shed and outhouse have been moved above the lodge.

Each summer is busy with work on the trails. Jim Weed, John Paget, Rudi Kamstra, and Keith King work to widen and smooth out the upper touring trails -- the Old Sawmill Loop, the Inner Five and the Hickory Wing Trail. Each year's work will allow the larger track setter better access to these trails. This means we will be able to ski longer and in better tracks.
