Lit Trails at Otway
Between 1996 and 1999, Mel Dery worked tirelessly on extending and improving the lighting at Otway. The map on the right shows the trails which are now lit. 1.3 km of trail lighting was added during 1996. During 1997 parts of the old lighting system were replaced (you will notice the difference in the stadium) and an additional .75 km of new lighting was added bringing the total of lit trails to over 5km.

During 1998 wire was buried to convert the old lighting system to underground wiring and a safe and more efficient lighting system--many thanks to Stinger Welding & Will Manson. In 1999, the repairs to the old system were completed. This project was funded in part by funds received from the "Access to Gaming Revenues" program. Since "Access to Gaming Revenues" are not guaranteed every year, funds may be needed for repairs and expansion in the future. You can help out by buying a pole.
Purchasing a pole for $100 gives you the right to have your name placed on the light pole of your choice. You may talk to your pole or even hug your pole without paying extra. There have been at least 24 purchases.
