We have a great team here at Otway who love to share the passion of Nordic Skiing. Whether it is your first time, or your 100th+, classic and skating lessons are available in private, semi private or group settings. We can tailor lessons to your particular needs and to fit your schedule.  All of our instructors are members of the Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors (CANSI)

All prices subject to GST  -  Sign up and pay for all CANSI Lessons at Otway Nordic Centre.


Private Lessons  (One hour)

Contact us for a private lesson, offered by request (with at least 24 hours notice) and based on instructor availability. Prices do not include rentals or day passes.

  • Semi-Private $70.00 ($35.00 per person)

CANSI Group Lessons




Just in time for Iceman. Sunday January 29 930-1130am

Doing the Iceman Skate on February 12? Hoping to finish feeling slightly fresh instead of bagged?

Improve your balance, glide, efficiency and get a few tips to avoid bogging down on the hills. We will ski this years' course and speak to the techniques that you will use along the way. Improve your free skate, two skate, one skate and offset. For beginner to experienced skate skiers.  Guys with Doug, gals with Carolyn.

Monday Evening Group Lessons - Three lessons 

January 16, 23, 30 2017   7-8:30pm

Sessions cancelled due to cold weather will be made up after the last lesson date. (see cold weather policy below)

  • Classic or Skate, Beginner to Experienced.  

  • Learning together in a group setting. Fun, social, educational.  We will build your technique in steps so "homework" is mandatory!  

  • 4.5 hours total  

  • $90.00

 Monday Night Lessons Cold Weather Policy for lesson cancellation:

If the temperature is -13.0 or colder at 4:30pm Monday afternoon the Monday Night session will be cancelled.

For consistent temperature verification, please use the Stride and Glide weather station in the header of the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club Website. 


Beginner Classic Group DAYTIME Lessons starting January 18 2017

  • Want to learn to ski but would rather ski in the daylight? Whether you have a little bit of experience under your belt, or brand new to cross-country skiing, you will learn the basics of the sport while skiing the beginner trails. 


Ski Lessons for Parents of Jackrabbits

  • Enjoy a lesson while your child is in lessons too!

  • Tuesday evenings (6:15pm-7:15pm)

  • or Saturday mornings (10:45am-11:45am)

  • Three Sessions of Classic or Skating

  • Dates dependant on instructor availability and registration numbers.

  • $75.00


Master's Lite "Ski Your Best"

Thursday evenings drop in January 5 to February 23.  6:30-8:00pm

CANSI Instructors: Adrianne Johnston and Carolyn Thorp

  • Classic in January, Skate in February
  • Improve your technique, efficiency, aerobic fitness and strength in a laid back and social environment. Tips on the trails format. 
  • It is recommended that participants have a least a year's experience in classic and / or skate techniques.  
  • First night Thursday Jan 7: Classic back to basics. 
  • Drop in format.  Only do classic?  Come in January.  Only want skate?  February is your month.  
  • $25.00 per session.  Come ski with us!!!

Want to be a ski instructor?

If you're an avid skier that loves to get out on the trails and help others learn how to ski, we have a position for you! SKI SCHOOL instructors are paid an hourly wage and hours are flexible throughout the winter. It is imperative that all SKI SCHOOL instructors be at least CANSI Level 1 certified and that their membership is up to date. If you are interested in attaining your CANSI certification or have any questions please contact Carolyn, Ski School Coordinator, at
CANSI Level 1 - Introduction to Ski Instruction (2 days)  Sunday December 18, Monday and Tuesday December 19, 20 5-9pm, 2016. Bruce Bennett facilitator.

CANSI Level 1 instructors are taught an introduction to ski instruction in the fundamental techniques of both classic and skate skiing. Once they have passed the course they are certified to teach novice skiers. This national designation is needed before an instructor can teach with the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club Ski School. Contact Carolyn if you need more details.  

CANSI Level 1 – Recertification 

Recertification is required a minimum of once every three years. You are reminded that in order to teach as part of the CNSC Ski School and be covered by our insurance, your CANSI courses/fees must be kept up to date. If you are unsure as to the status of your CANSI membership, please visit the CANSI website at or contact Pacific CANSI office at and ask for an update on your status.
