- March 30,2008—If you have volunteered your time for any program or event during the 2007-2008 ski season the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club would like to invite you to our Volunteer Appreciation Night being held on the 4th of April at The Rotary Nordic Lodge (Otway Nordic Center) at 7:00 p.m. The Board of Directors and the members of the Club would like to take this opportunity to meet and thank you for all the time you have given to make the programs and events a success. - February 29,2008—Caledonia Nordic Ski Club has a reciprocal agreement with the Bulkley Valley Cross Country Ski Club for a reduced trail fee. CNSC members will receive 25% off of the day pass while skiing at the BV Club trails in Smithers. You will need to present your CNSC membership pass.

- December 22,2007—Skifest 2008, Introduce a Friend to X-Country Skiing Skifest is being held this year at Otway Nordic Centre on January 13th, 2008. Skifest is a world-wide celebration of X-county skiing. It.s a great way to get acquainted with X-county skiing. The focus is on fun for families and especially first time skiers. There are no trail fees on Skifest day! Activities planned for the day include a pancake breakfast, free ski lessons, ski tours, wax clinics and biathlon demonstrations. - November 10,2007—Parent and Tot/Babe Ski Monday mornings 10:00am -12:00pm This is a great opportunity to get out skiing with your young children (new born to school age). Parents can trade off with childcare and get out for a ski on their own or with another parent. Kids can play in the warm cabin or in the great outdoors, try out skiing for the first time or get pulled in one of the pulks(baby sleds) available for rent. Parents that are new to skiing can gain from those parents with experience. This is an informal drop in group with no additional costs beyond the trail fees. - October 16,2007— New Instructors Needed! We are in need of new instructors for teaching adults and kids. Spread the joy of cross-country skiing while getting paid and fitting your schedule. Flexible hours . days, evenings or weekends. Group lessons, team teaching, semi private or private. Classic or skating. All skiing levels welcome. We are in need of advanced skiers to teach our higher level participants but due to the success of our program, any level is welcome to prevent instructor burn-out! - July 17,2007— Interim Treasurer/Nominations for Secretary and Vice President. The club is still in need of an interim treasurer from the end of August until the end of December. Duties include deposits to the bank account, paying bills and paying staff and contractors during the ski season. Financial transactions include bank reconciliations and entering of data into Simply Accounting as well as quarterly GST returns. Executive meetings are held at Otway at 7:00 pm on the first Monday of the month and generally last 2 hours. The treasurer prepares a report for these meetings. The full scope of the job takes about 10 hours per month during the off ski season and up to 10 hours per week during the ski season. The club is also looking for nominations for Secretary and Vice President for the AGM on Sept. 19th. - October 20,2006— A Level 1 Cross Country Officials course is being offered in Prince George on November 18, 2006. This is the entry level course for Cross Country officiating. This one day, 8-10 hour course provides a general knowledge of the Cross Country Rules and regulations; provides a general knowledge of the Race Committee structure for Olympic and Loppet type competitions; provides the knowledge to perform all the duties of minor officials and administrative officials for Olympic and Loppet type competitions. The course fee of $55.00 will be covered by the club for all Caledonia Nordic Ski Club members who successfully complete the course. - October 15,2006— The Prince George Naturalists Club's October meeting will be held at the Spruce City Wildlife Fish Hatchery on River Road October 18th at 7:30 pm. The guest presentation will be Lawrence Redfern of Mountain Caribou Project. The Mountain Caribou Project is promoting the recovery of mountain caribou in BC. The extensive scientific knowledge and technical skills in BC and some recent herd increases all indicate successful mountain caribou population recovery is a choice we can make. Further, they believe mountain caribou recovery serves our future economic and social well-being by demonstrating healthy, sustainable management of our environment - key to maintaining both our $10 billion a year "SuperNatural BC" tourist industry and the success of our forest industry in an increasingly environmentally-sensitive forest products marketplace. Healthy and diverse wildlife populations are in all British Columbians' best interests. This presentation will provide an overview of mountain caribou: the animal, their habitat, the reasons for their recent decline,the state of research and legislation, current herd status, recovery planning and successes, and why recovery is important.

- May 21,2006—Notice to all officials VANOC and Cross Country BC are recruiting CCC certified officials to enable the hosting of the Cross-Country events at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and the test events for both disciplines leading up to the Games. In addition, VANOC and Cross Country BC are recruiting CCC certified officials to enable the hosting of the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games and the test events leading up to that event. - April 9,2006—Outstanding contribution awards were presented to the following club members at the Volunteer Appreciation evening: Tim Roots, Renate Dorschner, Steve Wagar, Keith King, Karen Peterson, Val Weed, Sandra Hooge, Gillian Recknell. These members have contributed more time and effort than would normally be expected from a volunteer. We thank them for their dedication and many years of service to the club.

- March 15,2006—FINGERS AND ANTLERS ARE CLOSED DUE TO LOGGING. The Fingers and Antlers trails are closed until further notice. Logging has commenced along Otway Road causing the closure.
- March 4,2006—NCCP LEVEL 2 TECHNICAL COURSE (dryland component) An NCCP Level 2 Technical course will be held in Prince George May 5-7th, 2006. Minimum NCCP Level 2 certification (multisport modules, technical and practical components) is strongly recommended for all individuals working with children 10 - 13 years of age. 2008 BC Winter Games The minimum training standard for the 2008 BC Winter Games will be full NCCP Level 2 certification (theory, technical, practical) in the previous system, or equivalent training in the new competency-based NCCP system. - January 18,2006— Megan Tandy and Knut Tore Berland from the Caledonia club as well as Jessica Sedlock (a Victoria girl training in Prince George) have been in Val Cartier, Quebec this past week competing in a North American biathlon competition to qualify for a position on Team Canada. With a first place finish yesterday Megan has qualified for one of four spots on Team Canada's Youth Biathlon team. Megan and Jessica will now train with Team Canada in Quebec for a week and then will head to Presque Isle, Maine next week to represent Canada at the World Youth/Junior Championships. Megan is one of the youngest members on the team and her overall results this week placed her in the number 2 spot in Canada for her age group, with Jessica 3rd over-all. Megan and Jessica are the only two BC athletes on this year's team. Congratulations and Good Luck in Presque Isle!

- October 4,2005— COORDINATOR/MANAGER POSITION The CNSC is intending to hire a COORDIATOR/MANAGER, on a contract basis, for the upcoming season. The position will pay $500 per month for the five months covering the period October 15, 2005 - March 15, 2006. There will also be an incentive bonus of 50% of the profits from the school ski program and ski rentals. - February 19,2005— BUS SERVICE TO OTWAY for NATIONALS There will be a free bus service to/from the club for the Nationals as donated by Diversified Bus. We are hoping that people will make use of this service in order to alleviate some of our parking overflow problem. We will initially start with 2 busses but will cut back to one if the service is not well used. The service will have you park your car at the Multiplex, take the bus to the Ski Club, experience a great day of volunteering then take the bus from Otway back to your car at the Multiplex at the end of the day. Busses will be in the Multiplex lot closest to JJ.s & Ospika Blvd. Also we would like to thank you for volunteering; we hope you have a great time. - November 26,2004— Otway is open! However, the old cabin is being upgraded and unfortunately is not available for meetings upstairs, waxing downstairs, or for general use until further notice. It is expected to be available within a couple of weeks. There are waxing plugs and lights beside the trail at the upper parking lot trailhead (near the large equipment building) however you will need to bring your own waxing equipment. Thanks for your understanding and patience during this transition period.

- March 14,2004— Cross Country B.C. is presenting a Level 2 officials course in Prince George on May 15th & 16th, 2004. This is a 16 hour course over two days that prepares officials for leadership roles on a Competition Committee at a BC Cup level competition. The course covers all official race formats, rules and regulations, rule interpretation, electronic timing, all aspects of the results system, and volunteer management. - January 18, 2004— Get ready for the Iceman at the Otway Ski Centre. On Thursday February 5th at 7:00 p.m. the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club is leading a ski tour of the Iceman Trail. It is free but non-club members are asked to pay the trail day fee of $12.00.

- December 24,2003— Cross Country BC Regional Coach, Lisa Patterson, will be holding a Classic Technique Refresher on Thursday January 8th from 7:00 to 8:30 pm and a Skate Technique Refresher on Thursday, January 22 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. Incorporated into the sessions will be ski progressions, drills, and games that you can use within your Jackrabbit Ski League sessions.

Biathlon Canada Certified Officials Courses -- costs $55/participant for
non Biathlon BC members, and $30/participant for Biathlon BC members to
cover materials and travel expenses for instructors.
On November 15, 2003 a Level I Officials Course at Hallis Lake Day Lodge in
Quesnel 8:00-4:00. Quesnel contact is Jim Crellin. This
all-day course will be taught by Paul Collard.

The Regional Coach for 2003-04 is former Canadian National Ski Team member
Lisa Patterson from Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Lisa, who was a member of the National Ski Team from 1986 to 1990, competed for Canada at the 1989 World Championships, and is a former aggregate Canadian Junior Champion. She is also a NCCP Level 3 coach, NCCP Level 1 Course Conductor, former Assistant Coach for the Ontario Ski Team and former Jackrabbit Leader.
In accepting this position she will be extending a leave of absence from her teaching position (grade 7) at McKellar Park Central in Thunder Bay.
