
The Rolf Bjorger Pettersen Memorial Award
Rolf was born in Sarpsborg, Norway on January 7, 1946 and came to Canada in 1953. He graduated from Prince George Senior Secondary School in 1965 and attended the University of BC.
From 1963 to 1975 his devotion to the sport of Cross Country Skiing won him many national awards both in Junior and Senior competitions. He won medals in 13 consecutive Canadian Championships and was Canadian Cross Country Champion 7 times. In 1968 Rolf represented Canada at the Olympic Games held in Grenoble, France.
As club coach of the Hickory Wing Ski Club and BC Division Coaching Coordinator he devoted much time to promoting the sport and actively participating to improve the standards and facilities in Western Canada.
Rolf died suddenly on June 28, 1981 at the age of 35 following a stroke.
On October 25,1997, Rolf became one of the seven original inductees into the Prince George Sports Hall of Fame.
The Rolf Bjorger Pettersen Memorial Trophy is presented annually to the Caledonia Nordic Junior skier best exemplifying Rolf's dedication to and participation in Cross Country Skiing.
